Haven of Grace

Project Background

The Haven of Grace serves women who are pregnant and unhoused by providing a safe, nurturing home, educational programs, and long-term support for mother and child. Founded in faith, the organization’s mission is rooted in hope, dignity, and the pride of independence, one family at a time.

The annual report was created to communicate the organization’s impact, recognize the staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who helped make the work possible, and show how The Haven’s programs move mothers and children toward independence, stability, and self-sufficiency. The report opens with the unifying theme “Together We Made It Happen,” which establishes a collaborative, gratitude-centered message from the first page.

Creative, Design & Messaging Approach

The creative direction centered on the idea of togetherness. Rather than presenting the annual report as a standard institutional summary, the messaging framed the year as a shared accomplishment between the organization, mothers, children, staff, supporters, volunteers, neighbors, and partners. The opening letter reinforces this approach by celebrating the role of friends, neighbors, and partners in helping The Haven provide a safe, nurturing home, educational programs, and long-term support for mother and child.

The report’s structure moves readers through a clear impact narrative: shelter, education, stability, aftercare, partnerships, financial stewardship, donor recognition, and community support. Each section begins with a bold “Together” statement, creating a consistent storytelling rhythm: Together we shelter women. Together we teach strategies. Together we provide opportunity. Together we support every mother’s needs. Together we partner with those who align with our mission. This repeated structure helps the report feel cohesive while reinforcing that progress is collective.

The design uses a:

  • Vibrant and optimistic color palette with deep blue, orange-red, green, yellow, purple, teal, and magenta
  • The brighter colors give the report warmth, energy, and movement
  • The deep blue adds stability and trust
  • This balance was important because the subject matter involves homelessness, pregnancy, and family vulnerability, but the report’s message is intentionally hopeful and future-facing

Typography was used to create contrast between institutional credibility and emotional accessibility. Large uppercase section headers communicate strength and confidence, while clean body copy keeps program descriptions readable and donor-friendly. The design pairs strong color blocks with photography of mothers, children, families, and community moments, helping the report feel human, warm, and connected to real lives.

Messaging Strategy

The report’s messaging was built around three priorities:

Show The Haven as more than shelter.
The report explains that The Haven provides a safe, nurturing and educational home for young, homeless pregnant mothers and their children, along with nutritious meals, basic needs, goal planning, education, parenting support, case management, transitional housing, and aftercare.

Connect program services to long-term stability.
The report highlights the full continuum of support, including the Residential Program, Quad Apartments, and a ten-year Aftercare Program. It frames The Haven’s work not as a short-term intervention, but as a process that helps mothers move toward independent living, stable housing, education, employment, and long-term family well-being. The organization’s website reinforces this same progression, describing The Haven as offering maternity shelter, housing, therapy, and financial assistance to help mothers create a plan for independence.

Honor the community behind the mission.
The annual report gives significant space to donors, volunteers, corporate supporters, foundations, religious partners, community partners, and board leadership. This recognizes that The Haven’s work is made possible through a broader network of support and gives stakeholders a clear sense of shared ownership in the mission.
